Scintillating music for lever and pedal harps

Lauren Scott

with
Elizabeth Bass

Eleanor Turner

Scintillating… the act of light hitting a many faceted object, sparks flying or the execution of something with panache and brilliance. The harp, with its quicksilver sound and ever-shifting resonances, easily fits these definitions, as does the inimitable style and virtuosity of Lauren Scott. A most versatile player, this album demonstrates Lauren’s consummate skill as both a lever and pedal harpist.

The Lever harp is markedly different in sound from its larger cousin; this deftly curated album celebrates its singular tone, soaring through the lines of J.S Bach or in Lauren’s trad-inspired compositions such as Neeps and Tatties. It’s also contextualised in the sound of multi-harp numbers such as the luminous title-track Sea of Stars, all to stunning effect. Alongside original compositions by Lauren, the music of Grace Evangeline Mason, Rüdiger Opperman, Maurice Ravel, and Monika Stadler is featured.

Lauren Scott is an inspiring musician; whilst continuing her decades of work freelancing with the major UK orchestras, she pushes musical boundaries on multiple projects as harpist with various chamber groups as well as creating numerous collaborative projects. In the last six years she has composed, arranged and published a highly imaginative and distinctive number of works. Her unique and dynamic style of composing was recently honoured with a PRS Foundation Women Make Music grant & her music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Scala Radio and included on BBC Introducing & Apple Music playlists. The journey continues with ever-increasing levels of musical imagination and inner drive with her second album ‘Sea of Stars’.

Come on a thrilling journey of sound to phosphorescent waters, blue hills, shining glass cathedrals and mysterious pagodas; in a collection that celebrates a musician who moves with lightening agility among the stories and people who inspire her music
